The Way We Are
Who are you? Who are your people? How did you come to be you? What kind of person do you want to be? Everyone wrestles with such questions. And no matter what our backgrounds are, there is one thing we all have in common: we all have choices to make.
God allows us to make choices, but our decisions are not always good ones. Death came into the world through Adam and Eve’s first bad choice. Their decision led to a much more difficult life, both for them and for us, including hard work, raising children, and living apart from God.
And today, we also suffer from the bad choices we make. Every day we face difficult decisions and many temptations that make choices difficult. Think about these questions as you read Adam and Eve’s story from Genesis 2 and 3:
- What did God command the man not to do? (Genesis 2:16–17)
- What was the first question the snake asked the woman? (Genesis 3:1)
- What did the snake say about God’s command? (Genesis 3:4–5)
- Why did the woman decide to eat the fruit? (Genesis 3:6)
Make It Personal
- Does your family put pressure on you to make difficult decisions? What are they?
- What difficult choices do you have to make about sex?
- What difficult decisions do you have to make about the people you spend your time with?
- What decisions do you have to make about your education or work?
- What would help you avoid making bad choices?
About this Plan

Choices is a series of lessons to help you study the Bible. It discusses many of the very difficult choices you must make in your life. These choices include matters of faith, sex, sin, and violence. Choices works best with a small group. You will have more fun and learn more if you do these lessons with other people. However, you can also go through this material by yourself.
