God Is Near
For many years, God’s people still did not realize that following Him meant choosing life over death. Instead, they followed other teachers and religions that suggested countless ways to find God. And those ways often involved learning certain spiritual secrets or following special rules and rituals, but attempts like these always fail.
God already loves you and wants you to choose to follow Him. That’s why He revealed Himself through His Son, Jesus. Jesus came to earth as a human to show us what God is like. Read John 1:14–18 and 14:1–7 to learn how God put an end to all our useless searching. Think about these questions as you read:
- What did Jesus show us? (John 1:14, 18)
- How do people find their way to God the Father? (John 14:5–6)
- How do people come to know God the Father? (John 14:7)
Make It Personal
- What do you believe about God the Father? How would you describe Him?
- What do you believe about Jesus? How would you describe Him?
- Do you feel that you need to do certain things to be successful even though they will not lead you to God? Why or why not?
