Spiritual Parents
Reading: 2 Tim.3:10-17
Key Verse: “the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim.3:17 NKJV).
A man or adult is “Full grown” and has left behind the speech, thinking and ways of a child (1 Cor.13:11). A man or adult has self control not found in a child. He has maturity, understanding, knowledge and ability that is used to complete the tasks God has for him. A man or woman at this stage is no longer sidetracked by the distractions of youth but acts responsibly and reliably.
Paul called himself a father of the believers in Corinth because, “I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you.” (1 Cor.4:15). “Father” refers to a stage of spiritual growth where we reproduce our life in others. Spiritual parents are therefore nourishers, protectors and carers of people. In his epistle, John stresses that fathers have a personal intimate knowledge of God and living relationship with Jesus (1 John 2:12-14). They have reverence for God, are submitted to His will, delight in sharing the gospel and are concerned for the growth, maturity and development of His children.
We should all aim to grow to this level of spiritual maturity and fitness because it is then that we can be most effective in representing God and helping others.
Prayer: Lord help me mature in my faith so I can fully represent You and help others
