Take Time and Trouble
Reading: 1 Tim.4:4-16
Key Verse: “Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit” verse 8 (Phillips)
One of the main emphases of our time is the issue of fitness. There are now 6,435 fitness facilities in the UK. Total industry membership is 9.2 million people and market value is estimated at £4.4 billion. This does not include people outside formal gym membership jogging, cycling, playing sports etc. Fitness is seen not only as beneficial to health and well being but it is also big business with sportswear and healthy foods in high demand.
Yet as a whole the UK population is veering towards obesity with more than 60% overweight and officials stating it is one of the leading preventable causes of death. Millions have joined organisations such as Weight Watchers and our media are inundated with diet plans and fitness regimes. You may be in the 40% who give up gym membership within a year or one of the millions who do not stick to a diet. Why is this? Because people prefer comfort and pleasure to taking time and trouble to achieve physical fitness.
Paul says bodily fitness has limited value but we should take time and trouble to keep ourselves spiritually fit. The Holy Spirit will help us persevere to become mighty men and women of God!
Prayer: Holy Spirit I ask for your help to keep myself spiritually fit
