Day Six - God Speaks to Me
Welcome to our ‘Run the Race’ Devotional - we are so excited to have you following along with us as we journey through the Bible. We are taking a look at some people in the Bible to find out how they ‘Run the Race’ that God set before them. Each of us has a ‘Race to Run’, something that God has made us for. Our ‘Race’ is like a lane on the running track but the best, most exciting thing is, we get to ‘Run our Race’ together with God and He provides EVERYTHING that we need to complete our Race!
Eli told Samuel he thought God was speaking to him and told him what to say……
READ:
‘A Voice in the Night’ - in the Beginners Bible - (Pages 160-163) or 1 Samuel 3
Eli told Samuel “I think God is speaking to you. Next time say, Yes, Lord, I am listening.”
Sometimes we can be so busy thinking about what we ‘think’ we have heard, that maybe we miss what the person is actually saying to us.
When we stop and say, ‘I am listening’ it lets the person speaking to us, know that we are listening and that they have our full attention.
Listening carefully to others helps us to follow instructions or information they may be giving us -
When we listen to God’s instructions it means we are following His voice - which helps us to ‘Run the Race’ that God has set before us.
ASK:
Try playing a game of ‘Whispers’, with the people in your house -
one of you starts by saying something and the others whisper to the next person until you have all listened. The last person to listen gets to shout out what they have heard.
Has what the first person whispered changed?
REMEMBER:
‘So we have many people of faith around us. Their lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is set before us and never give up’ (Hebrews 12:1)
SAY:
I am an overcomer
I can run my race
I can raise a happy sound.
His people all around.
My God has given me everything
He is faithful and true,
With my eyes firmly fixed on Him
His power will get me through!
