God's ImitatorsSample
Choose the right friends
You've probably played Follow the Leader, right? I wonder if you've played my way, though, where I blindfold you and take you on sidewalks filled with broken glass. There's a mean dog on the loose, and he likes to bite kids. Oh, I just might trip you too.
You'd never agree to play if you knew that was going to happen, would you? Of course not. You're smart enough to know that playing along on a dangerous game could get you hurt.
So when our friends are trying to get us to do things we know are wrong, what makes us think we can follow them without getting into trouble? Too often we think we won't get caught or we're afraid our friends will be mad at us or we just feel like doing something we know is wrong. Listening to your own ideas or to others' temptations will lead you down the wrong path.
Wise King Solomon knew this: "My son, if sinners lure you, do not go along. My son, do not follow them in their way. Do not even set foot on their path" (Proverbs 1:10,15).
Choose your friends wisely. Look for honest, kind, true, and loyal people to hang out with. And make sure when you play Follow the Leader, you are following Jesus, the best Leader.
