DAY 10 OF 20

It can seem like people have opinions on just about everything. Opinions are good to have, but what happens when we let them divide us to the point of mistreating one another or name-calling? These opinions have led to divisions, from what people wear and dress to political or religious affiliation. The division is often more common than being united is.

These divisions that we see in our day-to-day lives can creep into our faith. We may not be exact copies of each other, but we have to watch out for excluding others from getting to know Jesus because we can't come together somehow. In Matthew's book, Jesus shows how far he is willing to go to ensure that even one person can feel included. The centurion was completely different in every aspect of life and how they viewed the world. Yet, Jesus took the time to make him feel seen and included.

As you read this story, think about one person that might feel excluded — from faith, at school, or in your neighborhood — and find a way to include them.

About this Plan

Please Explain

Some things are hard to understand — like chemistry or verb conjugations. When we face a problem we're struggling to understand, it helps to know someone we trust can explain it to us. Jesus spent time helping his followers understand difficult ideas about God. Jesus did this by using stories and metaphors, called parables. In this 20-day devotional series from Grow Curriculum we’ll unpack Jesus’ teachings.
