DAY 13 OF 20

It's never fun to hear bad news, whether finding out you didn't do well on a test, hearing you didn't make the team, music group, or play, or maybe some said they were disappointed in you. These can be hard words to hear because maybe we know we could have done better. Yet, after some time, we look back at these moments and realize that even though it was tough, we learned from these experiences. Sometimes the words of Jesus can have this effect, where they are tough to hear, but we know they are for the better.

The story we read is one of the more popular stories in the Bible. The lawyer was trying to justify and figure out the bare minimum for how someone should treat others. In response, Jesus tells the story of someone who looked past rules and boundaries to care for someone they didn't know. This story should challenge us to rethink how we treat others, especially those who might think or look like us.

How can you challenge yourself to be more open to people you might not always interact with this week?

About this Plan

Please Explain

Some things are hard to understand — like chemistry or verb conjugations. When we face a problem we're struggling to understand, it helps to know someone we trust can explain it to us. Jesus spent time helping his followers understand difficult ideas about God. Jesus did this by using stories and metaphors, called parables. In this 20-day devotional series from Grow Curriculum we’ll unpack Jesus’ teachings.
