Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 63 OF 161

My Soul Finds Rest in God Alone

Are there ever times when you are at school, sports, music group or other places that you have felt people wear against you? Maybe talking about you behind your back, not wanting you to succeed. Maybe you have experienced people who weren’t real with you, they acted in a fake way. It can be so exhausting, so upsetting and make us feel very insecure.

David is in that situation; he feels people want to topple him, they are lying and are against him. In verses 5-7, David preaches truth to himself; he gives himself a sermon! He’ s repeating what he knows to be true to himself. He tells himself 'I will not be shaken!' He then goes on to share this with others in verses 8-10. It means so much to him that he can trust God and have rest that he wants others to have it too. He wants everyone to experience what he does with his Father. God is in control; He has all the power, all the authority, and He freely gives us His love. He will deal with the situations and people that are upsetting us in our lives; we can trust Him! Because we can trust Him, we can live with rest. We can walk into situations, even difficult ones, knowing that our Father is with us, that He can protect us and that our souls can be at rest in Him.

GO DEEP: Do you need rest and relief in your day-to-day life? Make a declaration today that your soul finds rest in God alone. Are there people who are being unkind to you? People who have hurt your feelings? You can remind yourself of how God sees you and sees everyone around you too. Ask him today to show you how he sees you. When we know how he sees us, we don’t have to listen to the lies that others say about us. Do you know anyone who needs rest and peace? Anyone who needs to know that there is a Father who cares for them? Ask God today how you can share his love and hope with them.

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
