Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 64 OF 161

Through Praise and Worship We Can Overcome

Our stories and experiences are worth sharing! Here is another True Story from someone within our TeenStreet Community:

“Not too long ago, we had the privilege of visiting Dubai. We were able to go out into a desert area, and I was so struck by the vast miles and miles of sand dunes! I had a moment of wondering what I would do if I got lost out there on my own. What would I drink? How would I find a point of reference to get back? How would I hide from the hot sun?”

Maybe you live in an area with incredible desert areas, or maybe you’ve seen them online or on TV. Imagine having to find a hiding place if an enemy was pursuing you in one of these areas. So scary!

The Judaean wilderness is a vast area of sand, sprinkled with caves. David found himself hiding there. He was on the run from someone who wanted to kill him. Most likely, we won’t be in that exact situation, but in life we can definitely find ourselves in desert or dry times. Maybe we are hiding from an issue or a hard situation. Sure, we can always try to work things out ourselves. But what we see in this Psalm is that David chose to rely on God even more. He chose to focus his heart on worshipping Him even in a very difficult time. We have the opportunity to make that choice, too. We all have a thirst for God, for His goodness and and justice. This thirst can only be satisfied by Him. David is in a dry and parched land. He praises God and is satisfied. He knows that God will fill him, and his enemies won’t be able to harm him.

GO DEEP: What does God want you to do today to make sure that your thirst for Him is only being quenched by Him? What can you do today to be sure you aren’t trying to quench it with someone - or something - else? What does it look like to earnestly seek Him in your life? Ask God to show you some practical ways you can grow in seeking Him.

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
