DAY 6 OF 6

Day 6: Communion — Sacred Intimacy, Shared Wholeness

📖 “The two shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 (NIV)

Physical intimacy is often misunderstood even within Christian marriage. For some, it’s a source of pleasure. For others, it’s a space marked by shame, silence, or struggle. But God's design for sexual intimacy in marriage is both sacred and celebratory. Communion is the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts, feelings and actions.

The world reduces sex to a physical act driven by personal desire. But God sees it as a spiritual and emotional connection. It is an act of knowing, honouring, and serving one another. Intimacy is a gift meant to reflect covenant love: safe, faithful, and celebratory.

However, many couples carry wounds, past experiences, or unrealistic expectations based on a worldly view of sex into the bedroom. These can create distance, pressure, or avoidance. But healing is possible. Jesus redeems every part of us including our perspectives and experiences of sex.

Healthy intimacy is about more than just frequency or performance. It’s about emotional safety, mutual respect, and intentional pursuit. Using the gift God has given two people in covenant to minister to one another. Furthermore, it’s not just about what happens in the bedroom but how you communicate, forgive, and reconnect outside of it that has a major effect on your physical intimacy as a married couple.

Whether you’re preparing for this part of marriage or already navigating it, remember: intimacy is not a duty, it’s a gift given by God to people in covenant. And like all gifts, it must be stewarded with grace.

🛐 Prayer
God, thank You for the gift of physical intimacy. Help us honour it, enjoy it, and invite You into it. Heal any broken areas in our connection. Teach us to love one another with tenderness, patience, and purity. Let our intimacy reflect Your covenant love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

💭 Reflection Question
What would it look like to bring God into the most private areas of your marriage—including your intimacy?
