Day 3: Charity — Love Is More Than a Feeling
📖 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud... Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4,8 (NIV)
In the Bible, the word “charity” means love in action, a love that gives, serves, and sacrifices. It’s not based on emotion or mood, but on commitment and intentionality. This is the kind of love that sustains a marriage through the highs and the lows.
Romantic love might spark a relationship, but it’s friendship, forgiveness, and faithfulness that carry it through. God calls us to be more than lovers. We are meant to be each other’s safe place and best friend.
But here’s the truth: love can grow cold when it’s taken for granted. That’s why understanding how your partner gives and receives love is essential. The “Five Love Languages” (words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, and gifts) are one way to learn how to serve each other from the heart.
When love becomes charity, it’s no longer about how much we’re receiving. It becomes about how much we’re giving, even when it’s inconvenient or costly.
🛐 Prayer
Lord, teach us to love each other with depth and intentionality. Help us to be patient, kind, and sacrificial in the way we show up for one another. Strengthen our friendship and rekindle our joy. Let our love be more than a feeling, let it be a reflection of Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
