Have you ever visited a furniture store and walked through rooms that are staged to look like any room you might find in a home? There is a family room, a bedroom, and a kitchen that all look exactly like you might expect. The only difference? They don’t look lived in! They have a bed, a couch, or a cabinet, but there are no clothes on the floor, pictures on the wall, or dishes stacked high. The rooms look sterile and absent of life. Because when a place is lived in, it should look like it is lived in, right? In this passage from a letter written by Paul, he told the church that he wanted the Word of God and the message of Christ to dwell in them richly. In other words, Paul said he wants our lives to look lived in with evidence of the Word of God in us. It isn’t enough that we just have the right pieces in place. It isn’t enough that we simply know God’s Word. Our lives should look like God’s Word and Christ Himself aren’t just present but living and established in our hearts and minds.
What might that look like for you? What would your life look like if there was evidence of God’s Word dwelling there? What would change? What would stay the same? Talk with your group about that this week!
