DAY 10 OF 15

A lot of us are probably familiar with the idea of having a “quiet time.” It’s a phrase used to talk about the time we spend reading Scripture or praying, usually as time spent alone in the morning or evening. It’s a habit some of us may have developed when it comes to deepening our spiritual lives and relationship with God. Here, this passage from Luke points out something interesting about that. In this passage, Luke wrote about two men who were leaving Jerusalem to head to Emmaus. On the way, they were discussing what had happened in Jerusalem that weekend—the crucifixion of Jesus. The main point of the story comes when the resurrected Jesus Himself ends up joining them on the road. Still, what’s interesting to note is that the two men were in conversation over the significance of what had happened. They were taking what they heard, saw, and experienced and sharing about it. In the same way, when it comes to what we are reading in Scripture and the things God may be doing in our lives, one of the best things we can do is talk it through with others. We don’t have to participate in our spiritual lives alone. Our “quiet time” doesn’t have to be all that quiet! We can invite others into it and listen to their insight as well.

When it comes to reading the Bible, it shouldn’t always be a solitary activity. It can be a group effort that leads to greater learning and insight as we share our experiences with God together.
