Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 214 OF 365

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Do you understand the implications of Adam’s life?

The Greek verb “have sinned” comes from the aorist tense, which shows past time. Adam became our representative in the Garden of Eden, and when he sinned, we did likewise. Paul connects the dots with the following assessment: “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). Again, the term “sinned” occurs in the aorist (past) tense. Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there. Paul writes, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22). The apostle leads us past the first man (Adam) to our sin-bearer (Jesus). Our mission is to proclaim Adam’s impact on mankind and how Jesus took the fall for us.

Employment Point: Guide sinners beyond Adam’s transgression to Jesus’ reconciliation.
