Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things (Romans 2:1).
Do you practice what you preach?
Paul shows the Roman believers the sinfulness of all men from Romans 1:18-3:20. He also uses a series of questions exposing their own sin and hypocrisy. Pointedly, he asks, “You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?” (Romans 2:21-22). Masterfully, the wise apostle unveils the duplicity of the Jews who have not lived up to their name. The name “Jew” means praise. Yet God expects all of us to bring praise to His name (Romans 2:28-29).
Employment Point: Practice what you preach, which will cause your life to bring praise to God.
About this Plan
Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
