Have you ever made popcorn? The kernels you begin with aren’t a very fun snack, but what happens when you put them over high heat? As we put the corn kernels on the stove, the power of the heat starts to unlock their true potential. As it gets hotter and hotter over the heat of the flame the kernels pop and turn into a much more delicious snack. The only way the corn kernels can become popcorn is because of the fire.

After Jesus died on the cross, rose again and went up to heaven, believers were gathered together and the Holy Spirit came upon them, like fire. With the Holy Spirit empowering them they could take the good news about Jesus all over the world. The Holy Spirit is with us too, He helps us, guides us, and gives us power to fulfil the mission.

God can do anything in our lives. With the Holy Spirit empowering us, something that feels like it's a far way off or may never happen, can happen suddenly. When you live your life ‘On Mission’ the Holy Spirit can do something in a moment that may otherwise take a long time, like the sudden ‘POP’ of a corn kernel over a flame. We don’t know what God might be doing behind the scenes, but in a moment it all seems to fall into place.

The next time you eat popcorn as a snack or while watching a movie, be reminded that the Holy Spirit empowers us for the mission.
