Living Wise - Sermon on the MountSample

A traffic light is designed to be followed. When you learn how to drive, you need to be on the lookout for them. These three little lights give commands and you need to obey them. It’s important that drivers obey what the traffic lights say. If they ignore the signals their cars might crash into each other! Obeying the signals means the traffic flows and everyone is safe. One of the reasons God gives us rules and commands to follow in His Word is to keep us safe. The laws, commands and instructions in the Bible help us make good decisions and protect us in situations that can have the potential to hurt us and those around us. Some people feel that a red light does nothing but slow them down from getting to their destination.
Don’t look at God’s commands as something stopping you from getting to your destination. If you look from God’s perspective, these boundaries are a blessing, given to us by our heavenly Father that loves us more than we can ever know. Not long before Jesus would die on the cross and rise again, He was with His disciples sharing a meal. He reminded them to obey His teaching. Obeying God’s commands is not just about keeping rules, it means we’re living wise and seeing the blessing that living God’s way will bring. Don’t ignore God’s commands.
