Living Wise - Sermon on the MountSample

Many years ago everyone had a book in their car called a ‘street directory’. This was a book full of maps that showed all the roads and landmarks in a city. Why did we need a book to get around? There was no GPS, there was no map app, there was no internet! It was vital if you were in a new city, the only other option was asking for directions and hoping the person you asked knew the right way to go.
Now maps are standard on phones, created using satellites and cameras mounted on cars that drive every road of a city. Before this, maps used to exist only on paper. The role of creating a map was the job of a cartographer. They create and update information that reflects the world around us. If there are any changes to a piece of land or a new road is built, it’s the cartographer’s job to make adjustments. We rely on their wisdom so we can travel accurately and safely.
The same is true in our lives. When we make choices, we need God’s wisdom to point us in the right direction so we don’t get lost. Lucky for us, we have a helper that is with us all the time, and He knows the way to go. The Holy Spirit is with you right now, and He wants to guide you to the narrow path that leads to life. Unlike the days when I had to pull over and ask for directions, God is completely trustworthy. Jesus knew this road wouldn’t be easy, that we would need to sacrifice to follow Him, but He gave us the best helper we could ever ask for. Follow the narrow path.
