Living Wise - Sermon on the MountSample
We all come across opportunities to take the easy road. Maybe it’s lying to get ourselves out of trouble, saying, “yes I did my homework” when really you didn’t. It can be tempting to take the easy road, especially when we think it could prevent us getting into trouble. Choosing the easy road could be going along with the crowd and joining in when your friends are talking badly about someone. It can be tempting to take the easy road and not stand up for what is right. Taking the easy road when our parents ask us to clean our room, might be just gathering everything and shoving it in the cupboard. When have you had the opportunity to take the easy road?
Everyday we make choices, some little some big. In the book of Deuteronomy we read God’s instructions to live in obedience to Him. When we choose the narrow path, we choose the way that leads to life. Have you heard the saying, “Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean it’s right”? Choosing the narrow path means we follow God’s wisdom for our lives. Doing what’s right even if it isn’t the popular choice. We choose the narrow path when we obey God. We choose the narrow path when we choose to speak kindly about someone when others may be unkind to them. We choose the narrow path when we tell the truth even though we might have to face the consequences.
Follow the narrow path.
