For the One

DAY 6 OF 7

Just hours before Jesus died, he gave us one of the greatest examples of what it looks like to serve others with humility and love. Jesus and his disciples traveled to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, a Jewish holiday. It was customary for a servant to wash all of the guests' feet when people arrived at someone's house. When Jesus and his followers arrived at the house to celebrate Passover, Jesus did something crazy. He grabbed a bowl of water and a towel, and one by one, he washed his disciples' feet. Most people in this time walked everywhere, so feet would be caked with dirt, grime, and sweat. Jesus was their leader and teacher, but he took the position of a servant and showed genuine love and care for his friends. When we humble ourselves and care about others, we follow Jesus' example and show those around us that not only do we love them, but Jesus loves them, too.

Challenge: Find an old washcloth or towel, and throughout this week, keep it in your room, backpack, or somewhere else you'll see it frequently. Use it as a reminder to serve those around you by "washing their feet" and filling needs they may have. Choose to follow Jesus' example of humble service.

Going Deeper: Choose today to “wash the feet” of someone around you. Pick a task that you don’t like to do, or something that isn’t your favorite (taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom, giving the dog a bath, etc.) and offer to do that in order to serve those around you.

About this Plan

For the One

In Luke, Jesus tells a story about a man who leaves behind 99 sheep to search for one that had gotten lost. We all have friends who are lost - that need Jesus. We are to share Jesus with them - not just with our words but also with our actions. *This plan was written by one of the students at LCBC Church!
