Through the Bible: IsaiahSample
Inscribed on the Palms of God’s Hands
Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.
Isaiah 49:15-16 (ESV)
Our Lord God is a covenant-keeping God. Isaiah 49:8-23 is filled with God’s encouraging promises to restore Israel. God will re-establish the land of Israel and gather the Jewish people back to their Promised Land. (We see this coming to pass!)
Despite the Lord’s comfort and compassion on His people (49:13), the Israelites still felt that their exile and suffering in Babylon was a sign that He had forsaken them and forgotten them. God’s response in 49:15-16 gives assurance not only to the Israelites but to all who are experiencing difficult times. God’s love for us is much greater than the natural affection that a loving mother has for her children. Throughout Scripture, God has said that He will never leave us or forsake us (Joshua 1:5, Hebrews 13:5). God has engraved us on the palms of His hands so that He can never forget us. The nail-scarred hands of Jesus are always there as a reminder of His sacrificial love.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the price You paid on the cross so that we can be reconciled to You and be redeemed from sin, shame and slavery. May we always be reminded of how much You love us and that You will never leave us nor forsake us. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
About this Plan
The book of Isaiah, which contains 66 chapters, is called “the Bible in miniature.” The first 39 chapters summarise the Old Testament which addresses the judgement of sins and the hope in God. The other 27 chapters foreshadow the New Testament which addresses the Gospel of Jesus and how God’s people will inherit His kingdom victoriously. If you want to have a Bible overview, this is the to-go book.
