A Spiritual Birth

Reading: John 3:1-8

Key Verse: “You should not be surprised by my saying, ‘You must be born again’” v7

One of the greatest sayings of Jesus is today’s key verse, “You must be born again”. Even though Nicodemus was a highly regarded teacher of the Jewish religion he was confused by Jesus words. The crux of Jesus saying is based on the understanding that there are two worlds before us. One is the physical world with its natural laws such as gravity and its philosophies such as “look after number one”.  However, there is another spiritual world with its own set of laws based on God’s love and its own philosophies such as, “it is better to give than receive”.

To enter the physical world we need a physical birth where our mother gives us physical life. To enter the spiritual world we need to be born again by the Holy Spirit, or “from above” in order to experience a second birth where our Father in heaven gives us spiritual life. 

So this is not a new birth based on our knowledge or accomplishments but upon our choice to “receive Jesus” and allow the Holy Spirit to give us a second birth into the spiritual world as we become a child of God.

Prayer: Thank You , Holy Spirit that I am born again into a spiritual world of love and forgiveness
