Under Attack
Reading: Eph.4:17-32
Key verse: “Don’t give the slanderous accuser, the Devil, an opportunity to manipulate you” verse 27 TPT
We need to understand that as believers we do not live in an environment that is beneficial or even benign. As Christians we live in a world where we are under attack from the Devil. His strategies include various temptations to deceive, trap and weaken us so our Christian witness declines and our relationship with God deteriorates.
The Greek word translated “opportunity” is used to form the English word topography. This relates to an area of land and the Message translates this verse, “Don’t give the Devil that kind of foothold in your life”. When the allies launched their D-Day offensive they gained a foothold in Normandy that was the first step in the overthrow of Nazi control.
When we give just a little ground in our lives to the Devil it can be like a foothold or crack in a dam that eventually breaks and releases a reservoir of faith leaving us desperate and drained of spiritual energy. In this passage Paul explains that our old life and behaviour needs to go otherwise things like bitterness, anger and dishonesty give the Devil an opportunity or foothold to manipulate and control us. Instead, the Holy Spirit leads us in paths of forgiveness and love.
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me in ways of love, forgiveness, honesty and peace
