Day Three -  God Speaks to Me

Welcome to our ‘Run the Race’ Devotional - we are so excited to have you following along with us as we journey through the Bible.  We are taking a look at some people in the Bible to find out how they ‘Run the Race’ that God set before them.  Each of us has a ‘Race to Run’, something that God has made us for.  Our ‘Race’ is like a lane on the running track but the best, most exciting thing is, we get to ‘Run our Race’ together with God and He provides EVERYTHING that we need to complete our Race!

Today we will learn about how Hannah kept her promise to God, knowing that God’s plans for Samuel were the best plans!

READ:

‘A Voice in the Night’ - in the Beginners Bible - (Pages 160-163) or 1 Samuel 3. When Samuel was a little boy,  Hannah took him to live at the Tabernacle with Eli - remember Hannah had promised God that her son would serve God all his life.

Before he was born, God knew the plans that He had for Samuel - God knows the plans that He has for you also - if you look in the Bible at Jeremiah 29:11 (ICB)  it says: “I say this because I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord.  “I have good plans for you.  I don’t plan to hurt you.  I plan to give you hope and a good future.”

This is God’s promise to us that He has good plans for us - even if things sometimes don’t go the way we think they should or we want them to - we can remember that God’s plans for us are always good.

Hannah trusted God and knew that all of God’s plans for Samuel were good and so she trusted that the priest Eli would now take care of Samuel - Eli would teach Samuel about God.

Remember this happened in the Old Testament times, before Jesus came and made it possible for us to be friends with God and have a relationship with Him and be able to talk to Him through prayer. Today we don’t need to go to live in a Tabernacle or Church to learn about God - we can read our Bible, pray, ask our grownups, go to Kids Church or learn from the people in our lives that love God.

ASK:

How can you learn more about how much God loves you today? Have fun learning about Jesus and about how much God loves you!

REMEMBER:

‘So we have many people of faith around us. Their lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is set before us and never give up’ (Hebrews 12:1)

SAY:

I am an overcomer

I can run my race

I can raise a happy sound.

His people all around.

My God has given me everything

He is faithful and true,

With my eyes firmly fixed on Him

His power will get me through!

In Jesus name, Amen.
