Love Your Neighbor
Romans 13:8-10
“…he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law. The commandments…are summed up in this one rule: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
When we love others, we provide a clear witness that we belong to God’s family. The opportunities to do harm to those around us through our speech, our actions and our neglect are available to us every day. To love our neighbors as ourselves requires that we think about them and employ cognitive empathy. We actually put ourselves in their shoes and consider their feelings and perspective. We then act on that empathy with the power of God’s love. To fulfill this call to love is impossible without the transforming work of God’s love in our lives first.
Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me. Fill me with the power of your love this day, for your glory.
