What is consuming your mind this morning? What is it that has you distracted and is keeping you from focusing on these words? What thoughts are rising up, making you believe that your worst fears will happen?

What if I tell you there is a way to let those thoughts and fears go?

Go read Exodus 2:1-10. Try The Message for a quick, easy read.

Notice that this mom also had a dilemma. Her problem isn’t the same as yours, but I’m sure it consumed her every thought. She was trying to protect her son from certain death. (Exodus 1:15-21) But this mom did all she could do. For three months she hid her son! Now, I don’t know about your sons, but one of mine in particular had a very loud cry. A deep, man voice even as a baby. Hiding him would not have been an easy task. But she did.

And when she had done all she could do, she placed him in the basket.

Now read the series of events that follow. The King’s daughter just happens to come bathe at that time. She just happens to see the basket. Her heart just happens to go out to that crying Hebrew baby. The sister of Moses just happens to have enough courage to approach the princess asking if she would like for her to find someone to nurse the baby and of course, takes Moses back to his own mother! As the passage tells us, when Moses was weaned, the princess takes Moses to be her own child.

I know you will agree: these “happenings” are no mere coincidence. These events come from the heart of a loving Father who stands nearby when we place our problems, fears, and concerns in His hands---the basket. He is always working for our behalf using all things. He is asking us to give our children, our husbands, our fears and concerns to Him, for our good and His glory.

What is your fear? Your heavy circumstance? Your misplaced focus? Can you release it?

Put it in the basket! Stand back and watch what happens.

Oh Father. My fears are overtaking me, I know. I’m trying to figure out how to discipline my kids, pay the next bill, love my husband, deal with my mom, siblings, neighbor, and all the other issues in life that overwhelm me. Give me courage today to release these things to you. I make a conscious choice to place them into your loving hands—the basket. Give me patience to sit back with my hands off, and eyes to see your mighty power at work. I trust you.
