What does it look like to have God’s goodness following you? Not just following you on a good day, but every day of your life?

You may be familiar with God’s hand of blessing upon you. But as you meditate on His goodness, you will discover an even deeper revelation—there is only One who is good (see Matthew 19:17).

Goodness is the core quality of God’s nature. He cannot not be good. In the same way you can expect fruit from a fruit tree, you can expect goodness from God. Wherever you see goodness in your life, it is a gift from God. James 1:17 says that whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down from God the Father. Goodness in the world is a gift from God, often expressed through those made in His image.

God’s goodness that He has stored up for you is abundant. Because God is with you, you can expect goodness to follow you every day. Today, let the promise of God’s goodness awaken expectancy and be your anchor in troubling times. Instead of rehearsing what is going wrong, remind yourself that God is working all things out for your good.

Reflect: What does my day look like today? Am I expecting God’s goodness?

Pray: Good Father, everything good I have and every good thing I experience comes from You. Thank You for the way You unceasingly care for me. You are generous, compassionate and kind. Throughout the day, help me to notice Your many blessings. From the moment I wake until I lay my head down to rest, I will focus on Your immeasurable goodness and praise You.

Declare: God’s goodness follows me wherever I go.

Act: Notice and record in some way the goodness of God you see today.
