Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
We need to realize that the apparent “slowness” of the Lord’s Second Coming serves a clear purpose in God’s eternal plan. God is patient toward his elect, waiting for them to be born, to grow up, to live apart from Christ for a while, to hear the gospel, to repent and believe, and to live salvation out before his eyes.
Patience is essential to this plan. When Peter wrote these words, most Christians (all of whom God knew by name before they came into the world) had not yet been born. The “slowness” of God has left room for you and me to be born and to come to repentance. So also God is waiting for people from every nation to hear the gospel and escape perishing by repentance and faith.
Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 3:10, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look at the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1-3:10 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.
Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 3:11 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
About this Plan
Adapted from An Approach To Extended Memorization Of Scripture, by Dr. Andrew Davis, this 62 day plan will take the reader through 2 Peter using a tried and tested approach of memorizing a new verse each day. At the end of the 62 day period the reader will have the entire book of 2 Peter memorized.
