Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
We should continually keep in mind that the patience of God has a specific purpose--the salvation of sinners (v. 15).
Peter mentions the letters of “our dear brother, Paul”, calling them Scripture! This is amazing, since Peter and Paul lived at the same time, but Peter recognized that the letters of Paul were as authoritative as the writings of the Old Testament. So also is Peter’s own letter! We should study all Scripture carefully, so we can be sure we are not “ignorant” and “unstable” people who twist the Scripture to suit our ends.
Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 3:15, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look at the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1-3:15 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.
Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 3:16 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
About this Plan
Adapted from An Approach To Extended Memorization Of Scripture, by Dr. Andrew Davis, this 62 day plan will take the reader through 2 Peter using a tried and tested approach of memorizing a new verse each day. At the end of the 62 day period the reader will have the entire book of 2 Peter memorized.
