Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
Peter ends the epistle by giving the clearest command for Christian growth in the Bible: “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” This fits with the exhortations Peter has been making throughout the epistle, but especially in verses 1:3-11. We are commanded to grow more and more conformed to Christ (Romans 8:29).
This happens first by the careful study of God’s word, and by the powerful application of that word to our hearts and lives by the Holy Spirit. This is the central purpose of the hard work you’ve done in memorizing this marvelous epistle! You want Jesus Christ to receive all the glory, both now and forever! (v. 18).
Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 3:17, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look at the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1-3:17 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.
Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 3:18 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
