Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample

Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 Peter

DAY 20 OF 62

Peter tells us the power of the prophetic Scripture in some unforgettable words (vv. 20-21). He tells us of the origin of the Scripture, and it wasn’t in the will of man; no prophet ever took upon himself the honor of writing Scripture. Rather, “men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” These awesome words are the key to the doctrine of inspiration.

The Bible is like Christ in his incarnation: 100% human, and 100% divine! “Men spoke” = the Bible is human. “From God” = the Bible is divine. “Carried along by the Holy Spirit” tells us the mechanism of inspiration… human authors put up the sails of their minds in the midst of their circumstances and the wind of the Spirit drove them to write the words He wanted them to write exactly as He willed them.

Thus the authors of Scripture were protected from error and said everything God wanted them to say. This is why we memorize Scripture! This is why Peter urged them to “pay attention” (v. 19) to the Scripture. Memorizing books of the Bible is a great way to obey Peter’s command to pay careful attention to the prophetic word!

Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 1:19, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look in the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1:1-19 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.

Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 1:20 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
