But the written word of God is unchanging, inerrant, a sure foundation for our faith. It can never change, but stands gloriously radiant, like a “light shining in a dark place” (v. 19). It has the power to transform your heart and make the “morning star” (Christ!) rise in your hearts. The morning star is the final star of the dark night, rising just before dawn, portending the end of night.

In this passage, Peter is speaking of the night of this present evil age, which will give way to the clear light of Christ’s Second Coming and the glorious world that He will usher in—the New Heavens and New Earth. Until that happens, we have by Scripture a radiant morning star of faith in Christ rising in our hearts.
