Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
In this little section of the epistle, we get a sense of Peter’s own imminent death. He speaks of the “tent” of his body (v. 13), pointing to the temporary nature of all of our existence in this world.
Because he was afraid to die, Peter denied knowing the Lord the terrible night Jesus was arrested. But Christ’s resurrection from the dead and the power of the indwelling Spirit, coupled with Jesus’ gentle restoration of Peter to ministry (John 21:15-17), gave him power to overcome this sinful and paralyzing fear, and to live a life of boldness for God. At that time, Jesus spoke plainly about the death by which Peter would glorify God (John 21:18-19).
Though our fate is not the same as Peter’s, it's vital for us to remember the word of God and to remember the zeal we should have to grow more and more fruitful for his glory.
Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 1:12, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look at the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1:1-12 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.
Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 1:13 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
