Jesus Culture - Faith For Your CitySample
City Compassion
Impact:
Jonah’s story is a great example of how we can become judgmental towards an entire city. God sent Jonah to Nineveh to deliver a warning so that they would turn from their sin and come under God’s love for them. Jonah reluctantly delivered God’s message to Israel’s enemies. He knew God is, “always patient, always kind, and always ready to change your mind and not punish.” (Jonah 4:2)
Are you quick to forgive and bless your enemies? Are you slow to get angry with national leaders or city leaders that are corrupt? God is so full of compassion and mercy for people. God pleads with Jonah to understand His position by saying, “How much more … should I have pity on Nineveh, that great city. After all, it has more than 120,000 innocent children in it…”(Jonah 4:11) Jesus demonstrated this same compassion for those that crucified him when he said, "Forgive them, Father! They don't know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34)
God wants to see revival in your city. He wants to see whole cities impacted with His love and mercy. Let’s partner with God’s heart and trust that “mercy triumphs over judgment.” (James 2:13)
Prayer:
Jesus, give me a tender heart of compassion for my city and all the people that live around me. Help me love and forgive my enemies. Today, I release forgiveness and mercy for my city and ask that you would begin an outpouring of the Holy Spirit to revive us.

About this Plan
Building on the momentum from this year’s Jesus Culture Encounter conference, we are inviting you into twenty-one days of devotion to strengthen your vision for your campus and your city. We developed this reading plan, in partnership with American Bible Society, specifically for that purpose. God wants cities and nations to be saturated in His presence and we invite you to join us as we encounter what the Bible has to say about city transformation.
