Navigating Silent Seasons

DAY 9 OF 10

The last one is one I’m sure you saw coming, but it is prayer and fasting. Prayer, in its simplest form, is communication with God. One misconception about prayer is that it is one way. Oftentimes, we miss out on God speaking to us because we approach prayer as a place to put in our requests and demands, and then we exit.

But if we leave time to sit in the stillness of prayer, we allow God to begin to speak to us as well. Yes, I’m telling you to sit in the silence of prayer and wait for the Lord to speak. The Bible tells us that waiting on the Lord renews our strength. So, I encourage you to give God time to speak back to you as you pray and engage in this Holy conversation with your Heavenly Father.

Additionally, fasting is a way to align our hearts and will with the Father. By turning away our plates or forgoing something to draw closer to Him, we eliminate the hindrances that may prevent us from hearing from Him. Fasting is a spiritual way of eliminating the distractions that may be getting in the way of our hearing Him clearly. As you fast, you should engage in other spiritual disciplines as a substitute for what you have given up.

If you find it difficult to hear God, a commitment to prayer and fasting is a given for hearing from Him. These two work hand in hand to create a heart ready to receive from God. God honors the prayers of someone committed to seeking Him, and these show how serious you are about being in and seeking His will for you.

Prayer: Lord, help me increase my prayer and fasting life so that I can hear from you clearly. I desire to be in your will and seek you with all of my being. Thank you for speaking to me as I communicate with you through prayer and fasting. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan

Navigating Silent Seasons

One of the most frequently asked requests of God is to be able to hear His voice. Sometimes, even those who have heard His voice feel like they have entered seasons where His voice is hard to hear. Through this Bible Plan, readers will be given tools to help hear the voice of God once again.
