Our phones give us information, communication, and entertainment. However, there is increasing acknowledgment of the detriment to our health when our phones are in our hands for long periods of time.

There is growing suspicion that due to constant switching between reality and the digital world extended exposure may lead to cognitive decline. Phones make us lazy, expecting information instantly. Spending a long time on a phone can interfere with sleep and cause an increase in anxiety due to the constant pressure of notifications.

On the other hand, we are instructed to hold the Bible in our hands day and night with no suggested time limit!

The word of God as found in Scripture - was given by God, written by men under God’s direction - and contains the words of life. The Bible is God’s word to us to help us live an abundant life.

To be a seeker of God means the word of God must be a priority. In a world of constant distractions, we need to cultivate a love for God’s word!

Imagine if we spent as much time reading the Bible as we are on our phones! Imagine the impact of its transformational power.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Being a seeker of the word means I won’t only read it but I’ll read it again and again! I’ll meditate on it.

I will also seek the Holy Spirit’s enlightenment on its meaning and transformational power in my life.

The word of God shows us how to live and how to relate to others. It encourages us and comforts us. The word gives us hope!

Why not make a choice today to prioritise reading God’s word? To seek the word every day. To expect God to speak to you as you meditate on it.

Lord thank You for Your Word! Thank You that in the Bible there is help for any part of my life. Please help me to be deliberate to seek Your word daily and please increase my passion for Your word. In Jesus name, Amen
