Seek God Passionately

DAY 16 OF 21

Seek a Fresh Fire

Ps Rebecca Pena - INChurch Sydney

Have you ever felt indifferent or lukewarm in your faith? When things aren’t at the right temperature, it’s quite evident. Imagine your freezer full of spare meals melting before your eyes due to a power outage, or your car’s air conditioner failing, leaving you neither warm in winter nor cool in summer. Even if you have a fever of 39 degrees Celsius, but your body is shivering, it’s a clear sign of an imbalance.

How fervent is your faith? The temperature we maintain in our relationship with God is crucial. It’s obvious when it’s not right, and it matters greatly to Jesus.

In Revelation 3:15, Jesus addresses the churches, saying, “I know your deeds, and you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!”

Jesus desires us to be passionate and on fire for Him. Our relationship with God should transcend mere salvation without passion for a genuine desire for a deeper connection. He wants our commitment to Him to be wholehearted and fervent.

However, in verse 16, Jesus warns, “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

A life saved by grace but lived without purpose or a pursuit of a deeper relationship with God is not the life Jesus calls us to.

Today, God invites us to rekindle the flame within us, fanning the embers of our faith into a roaring fire. Throughout Scripture, fire symbolises God’s presence and power. Think of Moses encountering God in the burning bush, the pillar of fire that guided the Israelites, or the Holy Spirit descending upon the disciples at Pentecost as tongues of fire. These images remind us that God yearns to ignite our hearts with His love and empower us for His service. Just as a fire needs fuel to burn brightly, our relationship with God requires constant nurturing and attention.

In the same way, if you have frozen chicken but it’s lukewarm from the open freezer door, or if your oven is broken and dinner doesn’t get cooked, both situations are unacceptable. Similarly, our faith being lukewarm is unacceptable. God calls us to be passionate and fervent.

Reflect

How can you transform from being indifferent to being passionate and fervent? Make it your goal to be on fire! You could begin by incorporating daily devotions and time spent reading the Word of God into your routine. Additionally, consider joining a group where you can connect with like-minded individuals who can challenge and encourage you in your faith journey. From there, you can delve deeper into the Bible’s teachings on life and discover practical ways to live in accordance with God’s will. Ultimately, prioritise seeking God’s presence and asking for a fresh anointing upon your life today.

Prayer

Father, I am here to serve you. Today, I choose to take steps to remain on fire for you. Help me, Lord, to walk with you and to transcend the status of a mere lukewarm believer. May I become a passionate and devoted follower of God, with a heart that yearns for your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan

Seek God Passionately

At the heart of discipleship lies a profound and transformative truth that shapes our entire spiritual journey: it's fundamentally about relationship. The foundation of our faith journey isn't constructed upon a framework of rules or built on the bedrock of religious obligations, but rather emerges from a deep, intimate, and personal connection with God. As we embark together on this devotional journey, let's explore the rich and meaningful dimensions of what it truly means to seek God with our whole heart, mind, and soul.
