Seek His Cause

As followers of Jesus, we are called to seek His cause and to lead a life focussed on His kingdom. Matthew 6:33 urges us to seek first His kingdom. The question is, how do we do that? It is easy to feel motivated to seek His cause after inspirational preaching or a powerful conference, but how do we continue to seek His cause amidst the everyday? When life gets challenging or even mundane, how do we continue to seek His cause?

Most of my life I have loved to run. Growing up I would compete in every running event I possibly could. I learned through my runs, the importance of keeping my eyes on the finish line. If I turned to look behind me or focused on the crowd gathered around the track, I would potentially lose the race. If I focused on how tired I felt, I would slow down and may not even finish the race. Having the right focus was so important to make it to the end and complete the race.

Similarly in our walk with Jesus, if we forget what our end goal is, if we lose focus and start to look behind us or around us, or if we become self-focused, we can fail to seek His cause until the end.

One of the main hindrances to seeking His cause is a lack of hope. Once hope is lost, motivation dwindles, the drive to push on fades and a person sinks into a pit of darkness, unable to continue. I want to encourage you today to consider how your hope is doing. Is your hope in the Lord and His deep love and mighty power? Hope is an energiser, it is the antidote to weariness. When you patiently wait for the Lord and place your hope in Him, believing and trusting that He will come through, God promises we will gain new strength. Hope doesn’t always change a situation but it does change us. When you put your hope in the Lord, He in turn, gives you the strength to run and not grow weary and to seek His cause to the very end.

Consider how your hope is doing today. In what areas do you need to realign your focus back onto the hope of the Lord?

Prayer

Father God, thank You for Your goodness. Thank You that when I lack hope I can come to You and ask You to renew my hope. Please help me to keep my eyes on You as I seek Your cause. Thank You that when I place my hope in You, You exchange my weariness for Your strength, and You sustain me through every situation. I choose to place my hope in You today. Amen.
