Seek God Personally - Prayer
Ps Jack Hanes - INChurch Sydney
Prayer is our instant, constant, and immediate access to God our Creator and Christ our Redeemer.
What a privilege personal prayer is!
Prayer is unique to conversation with God. It is unlike all other communication in my life.
The most deep and meaningful conversations I can have with my wife are talks, chats, discussions, and discourses. But none of that is called prayer. We are having conversations with each other but not praying to each other.
Prayer is like the Red Phone that sits on the President of the United States desk. It is only connected to one number for one purpose. And to think that you and I have a phone like that connected to the God of all flesh and the maker of all things! A direct line to speak to Him, to seek Him, to engage with Him in conversation and communication.
Through personal prayer, I have intimate interaction with God.
I can know Him.
I can know Him deeply.
In prayer, I speak to Him and He speaks to me. In prayer, I reveal myself to Him and He reveals Himself to me.
Prayer is where I lift my eyes above the temporal and look beyond the concrete and bitumen to gaze upon the eternal.
In prayer, my focus is above and not below. I ‘lift up my eyes’ and set my affections on things above. Prayer is where I know God in the secret place. It’s where I abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
King David said in Psalm 27:8 in the New King James Version: When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”
I love the way the New Living Bible says this verse: My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
Or as The Passion Translation says: Lord, when you said to me, “Seek my face,” my inner being responded, “I’m seeking your face with all my heart.”
Prayer is that place where I seek His face.
So let me encourage you on this first day of seeking God passionately, find a place to seek His face.
And return there every day for the next 20 days.
Seek God personally and passionately in prayer.
Reflect
As we Seek God Passionately, think about how you can turn off all distractions, silence all disruptions, and shut down all diversions.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for this season of seeking you passionately. I am drawing near to you, lifting my eyes above the temporal to the eternal. Keep distractions from me as I prioritise you in my life. Amen

At the heart of discipleship lies a profound and transformative truth that shapes our entire spiritual journey: it's fundamentally about relationship. The foundation of our faith journey isn't constructed upon a framework of rules or built on the bedrock of religious obligations, but rather emerges from a deep, intimate, and personal connection with God. As we embark together on this devotional journey, let's explore the rich and meaningful dimensions of what it truly means to seek God with our whole heart, mind, and soul.
