Seek God Passionately

DAY 5 OF 21

Seek His Way

Ps Sonya De Martin - INChurch Sydney

Over the years of serving in church, whether leading small groups, volunteering in our community, or leading in Youth ministry, I’ve come to realise something about myself: I’m a very task-oriented person.

I love tasks because they keep me focused and give me a sense of accomplishment. However, as my faith has grown, I’ve learned that tasks alone should never define my relationship with God. My heart’s desire is for these tasks to ultimately serve Him and fulfill His purpose for my life, whatever that may look like in each season.

This leads me to a question I’ve grappled with: What does it truly mean to live in God’s way and in His plans? We often hear about this somewhat enigmatic and elusive “call of God.” It’s easy to wonder if we’re on His path, searching for it, or perhaps even missing it altogether. What if I’m headed in the wrong direction?

Mark 12:30 reminds us that living in God’s way isn’t about the tasks we accomplish; it’s about directing our entire being—our heart, soul, mind, and strength—toward loving Him.

Don’t chase after tasks; instead, pursue the presence of God.

The truth is, no number of tasks will make God love us more or place us in a better position in His plans. His love isn’t something we earn or achieve. Titus 3:4-5 emphasizes this: “But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.”

So, is God’s way merely a task? No, it’s far more. It’s about prioritising seeking Him first, loving Him completely with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. When we do this, we can trust that the tasks we undertake will naturally align with His plans. It’s not about meticulously ticking boxes or always having a clear understanding of the path; it’s about maintaining our connection to Him and allowing His love to shape the way we live and serve.

Reflect

Let’s be encouraged to shift our focus away from whether we’re “in the call” or “on the right track” and more on loving God with everything we have. When we do this, He will guide our steps, season by season, to fulfill His purposes in our lives.

Prayer

Lord, I want to live your way and in your plans. May I pursue your presence and rest in your unconditional love. I choose to love you with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Amen

About this Plan

Seek God Passionately

At the heart of discipleship lies a profound and transformative truth that shapes our entire spiritual journey: it's fundamentally about relationship. The foundation of our faith journey isn't constructed upon a framework of rules or built on the bedrock of religious obligations, but rather emerges from a deep, intimate, and personal connection with God. As we embark together on this devotional journey, let's explore the rich and meaningful dimensions of what it truly means to seek God with our whole heart, mind, and soul.
