Seek His Grace

Grace… it’s a concept that whilst easy to understand can be more difficult to put into practice. We can have the knowledge that we have received His grace, yet we can live like we’re still trying to earn His forgiveness.

Paul makes it clear in Ephesians 2 “God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.“ Grace is a GIFT. Salvation is a GIFT.

We can live having received the gift, but by leaving it unopened, we are not walking and living in His grace. We might continue to try and earn His merit and favour, doing all we can in our own strength rather than resting in the fact that we have received salvation freely from Him.

Remember, grace isn’t a license to sin, but rather it’s a starting point by which to live a life of freedom in Christ. Grace enables us to start from a place of freedom so we are unencumbered by the chains of sin, not burdened down by our failings or guilt and shame. Paul again encourages us in Galatians 5:1 “Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.” So, live free! Don’t try to earn something that has already been given to you. Open the gift of grace and live in the freedom of Christ.

The writer of Hebrews sums this up well in Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”

Living in grace is living with our eyes fixed on Jesus. We practically walk in His grace by not looking at our shortcomings, our sin, our shame, and our guilt. Live your life each day looking at Jesus. Remind yourself that He died for your sins, He rose again. He offers you forgiveness. He has given you salvation.

Live your life like that and you will live in His grace.

Prayer

Jesus, help me today to keep my eyes fixed on you. I thank you for the forgiveness and grace that you have given me. This is too great for words. I want to live each day walking in your grace. I need you each day to live this out and live for you. Amen
