Seek His Righteousness

Matthew 6:33 discusses seeking God’s righteousness, which is in the middle of a passage about not worrying.

As humans, we all worry about something, but as Christians, we need to consciously choose to focus our thoughts and shape our worries into prayers by bringing our concerns to our Heavenly Father.

What is God’s righteousness?

God’s righteousness is the kind of behavior that pleases Him, and it can be seen in various ways.

In the Bible, God’s righteousness is revealed in every believer through their obedience to Christ. Believers in Christ become God’s righteousness and demonstrate it in their daily lives.

When we demonstrate our obedience to Christ in our daily lives and our behavior pleases God, we are seeking God’s righteousness. Refer to Romans 6:16.

Choose to do what God wants us to do and let that occupy our thoughts.

How can I apply this to my life?

- Living in a right relationship: Living in a right relationship with God, others, and creation.

- Living righteously: Living justly, honestly, and faithfully.

- Living like a Christian: practise respect for others, consideration, and good manners. In our increasingly impatient, rude, and demanding world, how we speak to those around us is crucial.

- Practising compassion: Feeding the poor, fighting oppression, and loving your neighbour.

- Treating others fairly.

- Keeping promises: Keeping promises to people—a person of your word.

- Fruits of the Spirit: Seeking to grow in all of these areas. Galatians 5:22-23.

Reflect

- Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit what one thing you need to consciously choose to change in your life, attitude, or behaviour.

- Lasting change occurs when we ask the Holy Spirit to help us and work in our lives. Sometimes, we may even struggle with the desire to change. If we ask for God’s help, He will assist us. All we need to do is be obedient to Him.

Prayer

Lord God, I humbly request Your divine assistance today in my pursuit of righteousness and obedience to Your will in my life. Wherever You have revealed areas that require transformation, grant me the strength and guidance to effect positive change. Amen
