Sermon on the Mount: The BeatitudesSample

Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes

DAY 14 OF 30

Day 14:

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. - Matthew 5:7

Showing mercy to others

God calls us to be merciful, just as He is merciful, and Jesus echoes that command in Luke 6:36. Mercy is more than an emotion; it’s an active decision to forgive, show compassion, and love others, even when difficult. It means choosing grace over judgment and understanding over condemnation.

Showing mercy often requires releasing bitterness, resentment, or the desire for revenge. It is an act of strength and humility to extend forgiveness to those who have hurt us, recognizing that we, too, are imperfect and need God’s grace. Mercy is also shown in acts of kindness and compassion to those suffering, offering help and understanding where brokenness exists.

When we choose to be merciful, we reflect the heart of God. By extending grace to others, we create space for healing, reconciliation, and the work of the Holy Spirit. In a world that can be quick to judge and slow to forgive, choosing mercy sets us apart as followers of Christ and instruments of His love.

Prayer focus:

Praying for the strength to forgive and extend mercy to those who wrong you.

About this Plan

Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes

The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most incredible passages of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the longest passage of Jesus speaking without interruption. The Beatitudes, or attitudes of supreme blessing, are a roadmap for our lives, teaching us to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in every interaction. Throughout this devotional, we will spend three days on each beatitude, ending with a focus on applying the entirety of it to our daily lives.
