Day 18:

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. - Matthew 5:8

Pursuing purity in thought and action

Living a life of purity means allowing God’s holiness to influence our hearts, thoughts, and actions. Philippians 4:8 instructs us, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Our thoughts shape our actions, so pursuing purity begins in our minds. Purity in thought requires us to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. This means rejecting negative, lustful, or harmful thoughts and replacing them with God’s truth. It also involves making choices that reflect His standards, whether in how we speak, treat others, or the integrity we maintain in our daily lives.

Living out of purity doesn’t mean withdrawing from the world but shining as a light within it. When our thoughts and actions align with God’s righteousness, we reflect His love and goodness. Let us commit to pursuing purity, knowing that in doing so, we honor God and experience His presence powerfully.

The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most incredible passages of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the longest passage of Jesus speaking without interruption. The Beatitudes, or attitudes of supreme blessing, are a roadmap for our lives, teaching us to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in every interaction. Throughout this devotional, we will spend three days on each beatitude, ending with a focus on applying the entirety of it to our daily lives.
