The American Bible Challenge Bible Study - Part 1

DAY 33 OF 35

We are all a work in progress, aren’t we? As we seek to be courageous, it’s the process--and a person--that’s our focus today. The Apostle Peter had his ups and downs. Jesus told Peter he would deny Jesus three times. Peter told Jesus that he would never do that, but hours later, Peter did it. The great news is that was not the end of Peter’s story. After Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Following that experience we see inspiring examples of Peter’s courage and devotion to Jesus. Peter and John miraculously healed a crippled man outside the temple in Jerusalem. Then they spoke boldly about Jesus in the temple courts. It gets even better as we pick up the story in Acts chapter 4, verses 1 through 22.

Reflection:

What are examples of Peter’s courage in this passage? Why do you think Peter and John are so bold and courageous? How does their example apply to you? Basically, the Sanhedrin was what you could call the Jewish Supreme Court. This court was instrumental in crucifying Jesus weeks earlier. How did the Sanhedrin respond to Peter and John in verse 13? Thank God that your past failures do not define you. God can do great things through you. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you courage to make the most of your opportunities to represent Jesus.
