Some of those quiz questions on The American Bible Challenge are tough, but you face challenges every day that are a hundred times tougher.

I think about some of the stories I’ve heard lately—folks losing a job or a loved one, relationships breaking apart, fighting a tough, tough disease. It’s serious stuff.

Especially in this area, I really don’t want you to just follow my lead. Just ask my wife. She made fun of me when I went to see the movie “Brave” and got scared.

But I am so thankful that we’re never alone when we face challenges. There’s this great verse in the Bible from the book of Philippians that says: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Courage is both a gift we get and a gift we use. Jesus is with you and He’ll give you the strength to find a way through, even in the belly of the biggest challenges.

Reflection:

The Apostle Paul is thanking the church at Philippi for the gift they gave him. It greatly encouraged him! God is Paul’s source of strength, yet God used the Philippians to encourage him. What are examples of God using other people to “share in your troubles” and encourage you?

How do you respond when you’re overwhelmed? Do you tend to rely on others or isolate yourself? There are advantages to relying on others or isolating ourselves. But, if your tendency is to rely too much on others, God may want you to understand that with him, you are stronger that you realize. If you only isolate yourself in the hard times, he may want you to experience the gift of trusted friends.
