Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice (Psalm 55:17).
How can you be prepared to endure a betrayal?
David experiences a painful betrayal. Betrayals occur by a one-time friend who turns into an enemy. The grieving psalmist writes, “For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance” (Psalm 55:12-13).
Similarly, our Lord sustains a painful betrayal at Gethsemane. Jesus responds by asking Judas, “Friend, why have you come?” (Matthew 26:50). Unlike David, Jesus knew His betrayer who dined with Him (John 13:18-19). Yet both Jesus and David maintain a healthy prayer life, which sustains them (Psalm 55:17; Mark 14:35). We should do the same!
Employment Point: Pray regularly to be prepared for any crisis.
About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
