Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 200 OF 365

Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 29:1-2).

Can you give something to God that He already possesses?

The Hebrew term translated “give” three times in Psalm 29:1-2 literally means ascribe. Ascribing glory to God carries the notion of referring to the cause that He owns or possesses. Our Lord possesses all glory and strength; therefore, it is our privilege to acknowledge in worship and praise who God is. Each use of the word “give” emerges as an imperative in Psalm 29:1-2. Likewise, Moses employs the imperative in Deuteronomy 32:3. He writes, “For I proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God.” Daily, we should acknowledge the awesome nature of our God by ascribing glory to Him.

Employment Point: Ascribe glory and strength to our God, for He is great.
