Living in Salvation

DAY 3 OF 7

What are we saved from?

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (NKJV)

The NIV translation for Colossians 1:13 reads like this, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves…”

Jesus, or Christ our Victor, single-handedly defeated the enemy. He didn’t just defeat him, “He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” (Colossians 2 - Message Bible)

Jesus “saved” us, sózó, from the dominion of darkness. Jesus is, “the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2) Jesus’ finished work on the cross saves us from sin, death, and the grave and its effects. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24 ESV)

Christ has brought us to life in Him and has given us the promise of eternal life and living free from sin and its consequences.

Ephesians 2: 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus… (NASB)

Prayer

Lord, as Your grace empowers me to walk in freedom and wholeness, help me never return to the dominion of darkness. Holy Spirit, use my life to rescue others from the darkness and into Your glorious presence.
